GILLIAN
KLEMPNER
Founder & Producer of The New Woman
Gillian has played a key role in the research and production of several
long and short form documentary projects, including Peter Jennings
Reporting: Guantanamo, Trade Secrets: A Moyers Report, Discovery Plants, and The
First Basket. In addition to producing The New Woman:
Annie “Londonderry” Kopchovksy, Ms. Klempner works at Cortina Productions, where she is producing multiple audiovisual exhibits for The Virginia Museum of Natural History, as well as 2 short documentary projects for the Lincoln Cottage Visitor Education Center, in Washington, DC. She recently completed producing and writing The Science of Plants,
a six-part series for Discovery Education.
Ms. Klempner has also researched, written, and developed content for portions
of the interactive and video programs in the Louisville Science Center
and the Capitol Visitor Center (opening 2007). She received a B.A. in
American Studies from Cornell University.
MEGHAN
SHEA
Co-Founder & Co-Producer of The New Woman
Meghan has worked in documentary film as a researcher for Washington
Media Associates for projects including Peter Jennings Reporting:
Guantanamo and CNN: Why They Hate Us. While pursing
a master's degree at the George Washington University on a Women's Leadership
Fellowship, Ms. Shea teaches an undergraduate course on Women in the
Creative Process. Ms. Shea received her B.A. in Art History and Fine
Arts from George Washington University.
JUDITH DWAN HALLET
Executive Producer, The New Woman
Judith is an award winning documentary filmmaker who has been making films
her entire professional life. From 1987 to 1991, she was the Senior Producer
for National Geographic EXPLORER, supervising over sixty documentaries.
While she was at the helm, EXPLORER won numerous awards including two
ACE awards and close to twenty national Emmys. During her time at National
Geographic she produced and directed: The Life and Legend of Jane
Goodall, The Gauchos of Argentina, Geography Bee and El Dorado
Gold. Since 1991,
Mrs. Hallet has produced and directed fourteen award-winning documentaries
for PBS, The Discovery Channel, TLC, A&E, and TBS.
For A&E. she made Lords of the Garden following a Smithsonian anthropologist
into the rain forest of Irian Jaya. For TLC’s Great Books Series
she made two documentaries: Moby-Dick and The Strange Case
of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. For PBS she made Stealing Time, The
New Science of Aging: Turning Back the Clock and in 1999 she made The
American Buffalo: Battling Back for PBS series, “Nature”. In 2000 for the PBS series,
NOVA, she made Dams for the series, “Building Big”. In 2001
she made Witness to Hope, a two-hour film biography on the life of Pope
John Paul II that aired on PBS.
CHRISTINA
LOWERY
Media Advisor
Christina is an documentary film producer based in New York City. During the
last two years, she has co-produced several films with Sherry Jones of Washington
Media Associates, including Peter Jennings Reporting: Guantanamo, "9/11:
For the Record,” NOW with Bill Moyers, and Dead Wrong: Inside
an Intelligence
Meltdown. Ms. Lowery has also produced multiple award-winning biographies and
historical documentaries for A&E and The History Channel, including Dear
Home: Letters from World War I, Dear Home: Letters from World War II, Civil Rights
Heroes, and Madame Tussaud and her World of Wax. Christina was the Associate Producer
and Researcher for Martin Scorsese’s documentary Lady by the Sea, Robert
DeNiro’s The Good Shepherd, and several A&E biographies. In addition
to producing television documentaries, Lowery has produced educational videos
for various museum exhibits, including The Smithsonian Museum’s “Separate
is Not Equal: Brown vs. Board of Education” and “America on the Move.”
MICHAEL
P. ROGERS
Editor & Director of Photography
Michael has covered the globe as a cameraman and production technician
for the National Geographic Society, MTV Asia, and numerous other production
companies. Recent credits include Fahrenheit 911; National Geographic’s
Hunter v. Hunted, Catastrophe, Specials: Jamestown, and Mega Movers;
and “Up to the Mountain, Down to the Village,” a feature
length documentary on the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Typically cast
as director of photography, yet also fluent in light and sound design,
Mr. Rogers’ expertise lies within the ever-changing technical aspects
of the media industry. He is also the owner of Persistent Productions,
a production company based in Washington, D.C.
PETER ZHEUTLIN
Consulting Producer, The New Woman
Peter, a freelance writer, is the preeminent expert on Annie “Londonderry” Kopchovksy,
and will play a key role in the research and interviewee outreach in
The New Woman. Mr. Zheutlin’s research has resulted in a book length
manuscript, a feature article in Bicycling Magazine, and an article in The New England
Quarterly, the journal of The Massachusetts Historical Society. Mr. Zheutlin
was also a featured speaker at the International Cycling History Conference
held in Davis, CA, in September 2005.
